Story

VISHWAS is a not for profit organization working in the field of disability and Inclusive development. Our programmes are rooted in our fundamental belief in equal opportunity and inclusion. We believe that everyone has the right to access basic health care, education and livelihood options, irrespective of disability, gender, class or caste.

VISHWAS Vidyalaya is a recognised inclusive elementary school from Nursery to Grade VIII. We work for holistic development of the children with a strong belief in Equal opportunity and Inclusion. Children from the marginalised sections including those with disabilities are our beneficiaries. According to the Right to Education Act, schools have to admit children in age appropriate classes irrespective of their academic level. At VISHWAS we focus on bridging this gap by creating a positive and inclusive learning environment for ALL children (with and without disabilities). To help the children reach school, we have two school buses that are fitted with hydraulic lifts which ensure the transport of children with mobility issues and others in a safe and dignified manner.

English Medium: From academic year 2023-24, we have introduced English as a medium of instruction for grades I to V. For the higher grades starting VI, it will be done next year onwards in a graded manner.

Music Sessions: Music sessions have been introduced for the all students of VISHWAS from grades Nursery to VIII and Skill Development Group. Students are learning Vocal and Instrumental Music. The morning assembly and celebrations have become livelier.

VISHWAS Skill development and training programme :Livelihood options and life skills are essential for everyone, not only because they enable independence, but also because they help to improve self-esteem and lead to a life of dignity and respect. All adults have a right to take control of their lives and exercise choices to select their personal preferences and livelihood. The programme caters to young adults and adults with disabilities in the age group 14-25 years. It includes both skill development for employment opportunities and life skills training for independent living. The disabilities range from cerebral palsy, autism spectrum disorder, intellectual disability, hearing impairment and multiple disabilities. Currently there are 22 trainees and most of them belong to the marginalised sections of the society. Depending upon their ability and challenges, they are provided training in various vocations. This is an ongoing process which is not time bound. Each trainee has a different pace of learning. We work towards holistic growth and development by providing regular sessions in yoga & sports, music, therapy, art & craft, communication, personal grooming, hygiene, basic money concepts. Vocational training comprises - weaving on loom, basic computer knowledge and hospitality.

With regular training, many of them are exceling in various sports and have won laurels at National & International level.

We collaborate with corporates and potential employers to encourage employment of PwDs.

To ensure their holistic development, we require variety of professionals that includes teachers, special educators, therapists and support staff.

Success story

Yashpal, a sixteen years old boy with mild Intellectual Disability joined VISHWAS in the year 2017. He was an extremely hyper and aggressive child who would never sit down quietly in the class and would trouble others. VISHWAS worked very hard to channelize his energy. He showed a lot of keenness in various sports. With regular training at VISHWAS and opportunities to participate in various events his talent is getting recognized. He has been selected for training for Special Olympics World Winter games, 2025 in Ice Skating.

He has recently started learning the Congo Drums among his new talent.

His mother is full of gratitude for the way Yashpal’s talent has been brought out by channelizing his energy. Her joy knew no bounds when he won the first position in Special Olympics Bharat for Volleyball and Football, State level in 2024. The people of his locality welcomed him back after the victory with drums and garlands. “The family which used to taunt me and him, are now all praises and proud of his laurels”, in her words.

Through continued support we can extend the success to more lives.

Joy of accomplishment

Kshitij has been a part of VISHWAS since the beginning of his school journey. With guidance from Vishwas, he underwent some corrective surgeries for gait, due to cerebral palsy. He then went on to complete grade X and XII through NIOS. He got training in computers at our skill training.

Ishank, with mild intellectual disability trained in computers and hospitality. This soft spoken, very well-mannered young boy has been very keen to become self-reliant by taking up a job.

Rohtash has locomotor disability due to polio. He has been working with us since 2015 in the tailoring unit. In 2023 when this unit closed, he tried his hand at having his own tailoring unit. But with no regular supply of work, it became difficult for him to manage a family of 5.

This year we have a new partner in Mitti Café (a café managed by PwDs). Through a rigorous screening and training process, all the three of them got employed in it. They are extremely happy with this new found self-reliance and financial independence.
